Who has had more powers as president, Bush or Lincoln?
Bush…current president…
Lincoln…Sixteenth President 1861-1865
Civil liberties suspended
During the Civil War, Lincoln appropriated powers no previous President had wielded: he used his war powers to proclaim a blockade, suspended the writ of habeas corpus, spent money without congressional authorization, and imprisoned 18,000 suspected Confederate sympathizers without trial. Nearly all of his actions, although vehemently denounced by the Copperheads, were subsequently upheld by Congress and the Courts.

Bush, lots more powers were given to him under the antiterrorest bill. Others Powers have been given in the war times of 1&2 and other wars.
The constution has been erroded away untill it is nothing but toilet paper.
Answer by plezurgui
You have clearly said it correctly. Nice job.
Isn’t it amazing that we still have copperheads about 150 years later? They were Democrats also, just as the ones that caused the deaths of all those young soldiers in Vietnam, because the enemy was holding out for a Democrat!
I hope there is a special place in Hell for those people!

An authoritative and documented study of the mythology behind Civil War history, clearly exhibiting how the South was an independent country invaded, captured, and still occupied by a vicious aggressor.

Did Barry just push Abraham Lincoln under the bus ?
In his personal identity speech, did he not recognize Abe?
Now in his up coming “cling to elitism” speech, will he further himself from the people of the heartland ?
Does “of the people, by the people, for the people” include gun, and Bible owners, in Barry’s myopic “globalist” world view ?

RM: he’s just a money intake ploy for the party.
He didn’t loose his “speach” writters.
Thanks.

You are correct in that Obama has a “globalist world view” of this, OUR COUNTRY. He is NOT the person he portrays himself to be. He is bought and paid for, groomed to be a candidate. Just another corrupt Politician who does NOT have the best interest of our country or “we the people” in mind.

how can people compare Lincoln, and Kennedy to Obama?
(lincoln) He served four successive terms in the Illinois House of Representatives as a representative from Sangamon County, and became a leader of the Illinois Whig party.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Lincoln
Obama only got elected because he was the only one on the ballot!
Kennedy represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953 as a Democrat, and in the U.S. Senate from 1953 until 1960.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Kennedy
but Obama has only 143 days in congress before he dicided he was going to run for office!
so how can anyone compare the 3?
Answer by Flying Teapot
Geez, don’t be so dense. They compare him to those two figures because many people (maybe not YOU) feel that he is an inspirational figure, just like Lincoln was/is and Kennedy was/is.
Answer by roro
Lincoln did a great thing for African Americans, JFK did a great thing for African Americans, and now they are using that comparison to appeal to…. the African Americans.

Barack is the way to the future, Barack is the leader into the
light,, Barack transends all to HOPE and CHANGE. and if
you believe this, I have some Ocean Front Property in Arizona. This self serving, empty suit, has only Baracks
interest at heart,, The Kool aid crowd should this fool get
elected will be Psychiatric wards around the country, when
Nobama throws them under the bus,, and either can’t perform
or won’t perform,. Honest ABE did something for Blacks
Barack just continues to use them, like the dims have since
they got the right to vote.
Yea and he’s constantly mentioning jim crow laws and slavery but ignoring the fact that his democratic party was responsible for all those things!
I think he wants to distance himself from Abe, cause he (for all his greatness) managed to split our country and start a civil war before bringing people together again, something Barry is capable of too.
no, he pushed cons under the bus, they are the elitest
He does seem short sighted!
McCain 08!
Whose Barry, and how did he go back in time to push abe under a bus when there were no buses in the 1860′s… I’m so confused….
bush has more power by far he has unlimited access to the largest nuclear arsenal in the world with weapons platforms in space
With Lincoln there was a insurrection. With Bush the only civil war was the one he created in Iraq.
But there is a pattern of Republicans trampling on individuals rights.
I’m going to step way out on a fence here:
Both presidents have the same powers; i.e., those granted by the constitution.
That Congress and/or the Supreme Court do not prevent a particular President from overstepping those powers from time to time matters not a whit.
What seems to matter is public opinion; and, believe it or not, both Lincoln and Bush could do a lot better in that department.
Techinically the powers of the President have not changed between Lincoln’s and Bush’s time. But the scope of those powers, most based solely on technological advances. and what they entail, go in Bush’s favor. One power that Lincoln had and Bush doesn’t is the power to order the assasination of a foreign head of state. If so inclined, Lincoln could have had Davis killed. Gerald Ford signed a law saying that no US official can order the assasination of a foreign head of state (why Saddam Hussein wasn’t taken out during the Gulf War). Another power not available to Lincoln was the line item veto, or the ability of the President to eliminate certain portions of a budget bill within vetoing the whole bill.
