I have to right a speech of about 12 lines (2 min. speech) and I’ve almost finished. All I am left with is the conclusion of the speech but I’m a bit confused. Please help me and write the conclusion of the speech for me.

The only known photograph of Lincoln making that address is at this site. The photo shows civilians and soldiers crowded around a low stage. In drawings that were done after the event there are women shown but I don’t see any in the photo.

Lincoln’s most famous speech was so short, that the various photographers were not able to take a photo as he was speaking. There were photos taken that day, though. As we can see from the above link (well done, Sir!) that there are women in the crowd, most probably ladies of the town of Gettysburg, a small town in South-Central Pennsylvania.

The usual suspects would have gathered near the president, just as they do now – sycophants (yes men), local politicians, local Republicans, local businessmen, and many of them would have brought their wives.

The audience was very underwhelmed, disappointed in fact.

They were the first to learn that the purpose of the U.S. government (and war it was prosecuting against the South) was to promote egalitarianism.
