Ah! And was MR. Robert Lincoln ( Abraham’s 1st son ) who rode on the Lincoln’s Funeral Train to Baltimore but then returned back to Washington where they started drove him around?

Answer by Olivia
He was brought basiclly on a tour throughout a country on a train and had a basic burial, but of course with military honors ect, it was similar to JFK’s burial

Web Search Lincoln’s funeral train and go to the site listed as members.aol.com, which should give you more than enough info.

Answer by william_byrnes2000
The route covered by the train covered the same route he traveled on his way from Springfield to Washington in 1861. The body of William Wallace Lincoln was exhumed and transported to Springfield with his father.

They made stops along the way, as Lincoln had done on his way to Washington. He lay in state in the Pennsylvania State House (where the Continental Congress met) where in 1861 he had said in a speech that he’d rather be assassinated than lose one state from the Union.

The funeral train was met by people all over the route lining the tracks watching it go by.

Lincoln and his son Willy were laid to rest in a quiet peaceful place. The tomb was fairly simple at first, the carving and such came later, following the attempt to steal the body.

I’ve included two links. One is the memorial marble from the tomb of Servius Tullius, and the other is the website for Lincoln’s Tomb.

The Lincoln Funeral Train

The Final Journey and National Funeral for Abraham Lincoln

By Scott D. Trostel.

224 pages, 25 maps, Photographs, Illustrations, Historical text, Soft cover, Bibliography and index, 8.5×11.

“Here is an extraordinary historic narrative recounting the thirteen day National Funeral Journey for Abraham Lincoln. The logistics included passage over 22 railroads and two street railways involving 42 locomotives, approximately 80 pieces of passenger equipment and ferry moves.

“This is the story of the nation’s first national funeral, retracing the Lincoln Funeral Train from Washington, D. C. to Springfield, Illinois, 1,700 miles. Millions of mourners gathered along the margins of the railroad tracks. In raw, cold, chilly winds, and rain, in the dark of night, millions of people witnessed the Lincoln Funeral Train.

“With 143 photos, maps and illustrations, author Trostel tells a revealing story of the funeral cortege passing through endless miles of mourners, making unplanned stops for brief memorials. Citizens placed wreaths on the coffin, sung dirges, hymns, decorated memorial arches and made other public gestures of sorrow. An overwhelming manifestation of public grief showed popular appreciation for the President.

“Each chapter covers one day of the journey and proceedings at each of the eleven planned memorial services conducted en route. Elaborate preparations and massive processional displays were conducted at the principal cities of Baltimore, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New York City, Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Chicago and burial at Springfield, Illinois. Citizens seeking a glimpse of the slain president came in throngs and filled miles of city streets. Near riots ensued at some locations in the effort to honor the remains.”

Abraham Lincoln’s death dream….?
I am watching History Channel and they were saying about how Abraham Lincoln had a dream where he was attending a funeral and walked up the isle and said who’s funeral is this? And the man answered ” The President’s” and then the people moved and he saw his own corpse in the coffin and a scream was let out.

The next day he died?!

True or not? And if this is true who did he tell about this “dream”?

I believe he had this dream ( only because ive had something similar) but I expected them to say 2 years later or months later but they said the day after he had this dream he was dead.

True or not and who did he tell?

Answer by jeff
they found it in his dream journal that was covered in ponys and unicorns.

Answer by Will
Actually, Mr. Lincoln had two well documented dreams.

Yes, he dreamed that he was walking in the White House and heard wailing coming from the East Room. When he walked into the room he saw a large number of people sobbing. He then asked a guard if there was a death in the White House, and the guard replied, “Yes, the president.”

He told this dream to his cabinet members on the day that he died. He also told them of a second recurring dream that he had.

Whenever something of momentous import was about to happen (such as the eve of a great battle) Mr. Lincoln would dream that he was standing on the deck of a ship that was making its way to a mist covered island. He had that same dream the night before, and told his cabinet that soon something very extraordinary was about to happen.

Very true, and very well documented.

This is something really creepy about Abraham Lincoln before he died?
Well, he had a dream shortly before he died warning him about what might happen later: This was the dream:

Lincoln heard muffled noises, like sobbing, in the White House. He left his bed and went from room to room, looking for mourners. When he got to the East room, he saw a corpse, wrapped in funeral vestments. Soldiers were stationed around the body. Abraham asked one of the guards, “Who is dead in the White House?”
“The president,” the soldier said, “he was killed by an assassin.”

Okay I read that in a book and I wass really creeped out. I read it in a book about dreams and it said all that to prove that dreams really mean something. Who else thinks that’s kinda creepy?

Answer by Me
It’s really interesting.

Another creepy idea about Abraham Lincoln’s assassination was that when the last photograph of him was taken, the glass negative that was used cracked right across the top of Lincoln’s head: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bootbearwdc/2159357935/

I have never heard that before about President Lincoln and it was interesting to read and very creepy, thanks for telling us about it. I know some people can translate any dreams and show the correct meanings, but I have never heard of someone dreaming about their own death.

Answer by staisil
It is strange, but Lincoln had already had many death threats so that was probably weighing heavy on his mind. Lincoln also gave his personal body guard the night off the evening he went to Ford’s Theater. That is extremely weird! He also had a dream about his son Tad.

Three days prior to his assassination, Abraham Lincoln related a dream he had to his wife and a few friends. According to Ward Hill Lamon, one of the friends who was present for the conversation, the president said: “About ten days ago, I retired very late. I had been up waiting for important dispatches from the front. I could not have been long in bed when I fell into a slumber, for I was weary. I soon began to dream. There seemed to be a death-like stillness about me. Then I heard subdued sobs, as if a number of people were weeping. I thought I left my bed and wandered downstairs. There the silence was broken by the same pitiful sobbing, but the mourners were invisible. I went from room to room; no living person was in sight, but the same mournful sounds of distress met me as I passed along. I saw light in all the rooms; every object was familiar to me; but where were all the people who were grieving as if their hearts would break? I was puzzled and alarmed. What could be the meaning of all this? Determined to find the cause of a state of things so mysterious and so shocking, I kept on until I arrived at the East Room, which I entered. There I met with a sickening surprise. Before me was a catafalque, on which rested a corpse wrapped in funeral vestments. Around it were stationed soldiers who were acting as guards; and there was a throng of people, gazing mournfully upon the corpse, whose face was covered, others weeping pitifully. ‘Who is dead in the White House?’ I demanded of one of the soldiers, ‘The President,’ was his answer; ‘he was killed by an assassin.’ Then came a loud burst of grief from the crowd, which woke me from my dream. I slept no more that night; and although it was only a dream, I have been strangely annoyed by it ever since.”
