Is it true actor Tom Hanks is related to Abraham Lincoln via a common ancestor on Lincoln’s mother’s side?
Answer by Staci W
I do see some resemblance in the forehead.
Answer by hollyberry
Yes. I heard him talk about it on Inside the Actors Studio.
Answer by St. Hell
Yes, as it happens, that IS true.
On the other hand…if you search back in time long enough, everyone is related to everyone.

Who was Abraham Lincoln named after?
A story is circulating that Abraham Lincoln was named after a boy in the street who ran to get the doctor for Abraham’s mother when she was ready to give birth. The boy was a neighbor and friend to the family. The boy’s name was Abraham. Is this true?

Do you believe that Abraham Lincoln could be elected today?
Don’t be a smart ass and say “No, he is dead.”
What I am really asking is, with todays standards could Abe Lincoln be elected?
My mother seen Sarah Palin on TV and said “She can’t even speak proper English!”
So, no matter what their political views are, it doesn’t matter now. Abe Lincoln was ugly, and had a very aggravating voice.
I don’t believe he could be elected today.
Do you?
Answer by gowylde
yeah, but he would be a Dem this time around. fox news would tare him down and say he had bad taste in hats
Answer by Bob B
No. I think anyone wearing a pimp hat in a presidential election today would be mocked and not taken seriously.
Answer by James Bond
Yeah but he would be a Democrat by the modern definition of the parties.
Answer by Cosmic
No because he was republican.

Nah. He was republican.
No unfortunately and I will tell you why … the right people today in politics would probably be deemed as insane or a cuckoo … bigot or hater … today it’s just pathetic labels without substance in many ways … I mean quite frankly Ron Paul ran for the Presidency and yet everybody shut him down ( no media time ) and said that he was going to be a failure anyways … the good people today would be awarded with the same gestures too … most people are driven by appearances , parties or politics in general … few seem to look at the right man for the job and the right candidate
No. He was bipolar. His opponents would advertise this fact and he wouldn’t even get past the primaries.
He would not be TV material and that would be the deciding factor. The highest elected office he could gain would possibly be the senate.
What was the deciding factore for Dukakas? When he rode around in that tank looking like Mickey Mouse — I cringed when I saw that photo as I knew any hope of winning the election was trashed.
The press didn’t even need to trash him, all they had to do was show the photo……….looking like a pure frigging idiot.
Peace
Jim
.
I doubt it very much. He was a Christian and the homosexuals and liberals would all mark him as a bigot or hater.
Abe Lincoln,Thomas Jefferson,John Adams all would put today’s lightweights to shame. They were brilliant self made men who spit in the face of death itself and accomplished amazing things for America.
Sounds like your family is judgemental of others.
How sad…
How do you know he had an aggravating voice…I dont think your parents or you were even born when he was president. Isnt it past your bedtime?
No. He is dead
Probably not because he’d be too “creepy” looking by some people’s standards. Honestly, Lincoln’s presidency strongly parallels president Bush’s, you should read up on it, it’s fascinating. He was definitely not a popular president during his time because of his decisions on the war and such, but eventually he became known as one of the greats. Perhaps some day Bush will get his due credit also..
Nah. He’s way older than McCain. And even uglier.
And did you know that in his second inaugural he expressed sentiments similar to Rev. Wright regarding God’s vengeance for America’s sins:
The Almighty has His own purposes. “Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh.” If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives to both North and South this terrible war as the woe due to those by whom the offense came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a living God always ascribe to Him? Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”
You see that, under the definition used by his own party, he’s not even a real American.
Lincoln is white and therefore would have to show his college credentials.
What Sarah speaks is called dialect. And yes she does make mistakes like every one else in the 57 states of America

He’d be labeled as being too inexperienced. No military experience, one term as an Illinois senator. Plus his religion would be called into question, Abraham Lincoln was probably an atheist, and probably gay. Plus, what is he trying to hide with his beard?
Nope, Abraham Lincoln would be eaten alive today.
no because in todays world politics is about advertising…
people could care less about substance… if you look good on TV and you have a smooth tongue then you can win…
if you aren’t that good of a public speaker and you don’t have a live-wire personality you mind as well kiss your chances good bye.
if you are smart, know what your talking about, and really care about the country like Abe Lincoln did then you would definately not win today.
I don’t believe so.
From what I’ve read about him, he was very honest and didn’t play dirty with his opponents. Also, he wasn’t attractive at all and, in today’s world, it could hurt him with some voters.
No probably not, even though it’s trivial, people do vote for dumb reasons i.e name, looks, and random other reasons I’d say no
yes i do. we’re moving past judging people by the way they look or sound, and lincoln was brilliant, logical, and well entrenched in doing what was right for the entire country, not just a tiny part of it. we could only be so lucky to have someone like him run for president….
