Lincoln always chose saving the union with the purity of its principles.
His decision to preserve the union and its purest principles are his most lasting legacy. His words are everywhere and is often quoted.
His morals and actions always lined up. He often quoted the bible to back his actions.
Lincoln felt that if the Union was preserved eventually improvements would be made so that all citizens could vote, all people would enjoy liberty and opportunity. This is reflected in this Lincoln sentiment, “I say in relation to the principle that all men are created equal, let it be nearly reached as we can.”

Abraham Lincoln stopped slavery in the south during the civil war and that is what caused the 13,14, and 15th amendments.

He is known because of slavery. He was against it completely. He created the Civil war. Also because he was against slavery people threatened to kill him. Though he did not let that bother him. He romed his country free with no guards around him. O f course he did get killed by someone who thought differently. He was the first president to get assonated. The man who killed him was Mr. Boots. Anyway he was known for ending slavery.

It could be argued that the Civil War while bloody and costing many lives, did save the lives of many slaves.

The answer also depends on how you want to define “saves lives”.

I don’t think he did anything. There was probably less “collateral damage” at that that time than there is today, but it probably had more to do with the way wars were fought and armies displaced than a conscious decision or deliberate policy on Lincoln’s part.

Abraham Lincoln set out the plan for Americas future. By winning the civil war he gave our Nation hope and unified our southern states back to the union over time. When he died by a gun shot by his killer John Wilkes Booth(a rebel Southerner) the nation was in mourn e for the next few years. But we prevailed and came out of this historic tragedy as a stronger nation being able to construct a “New South”. If it wasn’t for Abraham Lincoln the southern states of the U.S. wouldn’t be the same as they are today
