If Abraham Lincoln grew up in a log cabin, does that mean he wasn’t a railroad lawyer as an adult?
Some retard wrote to me this.

Answer by Clyde
Nope. Back in those days you could be born in a log cabin and become a lawyer. You didn’t have to go to college and pass a bar exam. You just had to know how to win cases and Lincoln was good at it. There was this one time when a railroad boss complained about the cost of Lincoln’s services. Lincoln tripled his fee and… got every penny of it. Yes. And he was born in a log cabin in the poorest neighborhood in America. Hard to imagine today.

Lincoln was mentally ill. He had severe depression; he said of himself, “I must be the most miserable person on Earth.” Others said of him, “Melancholy dripped from him as he walked.” But in those days, mental illness was not as much of a stigma as it is now; people respected those who had heavier burdens, and still carried them. Lincoln “manned up” and succeeded despite his horrible gloominess.

Lincoln, despite his extra-constitutional behavior, was one of the greatest leaders in history. If he was born today, he would be heavily medicated and wouldn’t amount to squat.

You are correct, whoever wrote that to you is a retard….

Answer by Naz F
Just to correct one answer above: To become a lawyer, a person first became an apprentice for an established lawyer. You would be a combination of clerk/secretary for him, and watch his actions negotiating contracts (most of a lawyer’s work happens OUTSIDE the courtroom) and dealing in court, until you could set up your own practice. It was then up to you to create business, by doing well and having your reputation spread by word of mouth.

That tells you how Lincoln would have become a lawyer. He reached the first step of this – becoming an apprentice – simply by having a reputation for being well-read, and for his performance in a local debating club. (2nd link)

TODAY, you can still become a lawyer by serving as an apprentice in some states, such as Vermont. (1st link)

Answer by Jessie P
How in the world could that possibly be true? Think about it. How could he have been born in a cabin that didn’t exist? How could he have helped his dad build a cabin if he wasn’t born yet? Come on now….

Answer by p_stanleyrox
Are you really that stupid?

Answer by digital genius
yes, he helped his father build the cabin, and then he was born.
