Did you liberals know this about Abe Lincoln?
… now I’m not making this up!!!!
Did you know Abraham Lincoln actually didn’t “like” blacks and would have been unhappy if not appalled that one was president?
It’s true! and I’m not being racist, its the truth. you may have a hard time finding it but if you look in a detailed biography about Lincoln it will be there.
And you liberals praise him for freeing the slaves…
it was as Obama would say “politicing” (doing what was best for your political career rather than what you truly believe)… and Obama did say that.
So did you Liberals know that?… or were you still going by the middle school teaching of Abe Lincoln
by the way I’m an Independent so the fact that he was a republican doesn’t bother me in the least
Yes he was a republican, but the republican party back then was a lot more liberal than it is today. so Abe would probably be either like McCain (a somewhat liberal republican) or a Democrat.
I just found it funny that people compared Obama to Lincoln when in reality Lincoln probably wouldn’t have like him.

You do know he was a REPUBLICAN right?
Answer by DC
I wouldn’t say he would be appalled, but there is some truth to what you are saying. He was a prejudice man, like most in the time, and freed the slaves so that slavery wouldn’t be an issue when he broke the South back into the Union.

What was your weirdest crush?
I just remembered my friend had a crush on Abraham Lincoln when we were in middle school, weird!
What’s a weird crush you or a friend had.

I’m currently infatuated with an adorable young gentleman, who’s portrait (miniature) I recently bought, from 1790. His name was Pierre (he also went by Peter), but he appears to have lived in America. And he’s wearing a powdered wig, too.

How did the Bible helped America One nation under God?
I need to know this again, I learned this in middle school when i was in 6th grade. I forgot the reasons for it and it was approximately 5 yrs ago…
If the holy bible did not exist, would Abraham Lincoln’s life be different? i mean really he does believe in God and in the bible, he reads the bible too. So how did it come up? Why was the phrase “One nation under one God” added to the pledge of allegiance of america?
Maybe in the very old days back then America was the nation under God, but now look at America, there are non believers and scoffers against God.
Answer by Toadaly
Lincoln was an atheist.
Answer by Green Troll
No. This should help.

It is well cited.
Answer by Pitchy
Since when did we become ONE NATION UNDER GOD?
As for the pledge, this was illegally added in by Congress in 1954 after the Knights of Columbus lobbied to get it put in.
Remember, our forefathers left Europe to escape religious persecution and to be able to freely worship as they saw fit. Not to impose the same set of rules they fled from.

It came up in the 50′s to demonize the communists.

you wasted 5 points for that?
Abraham Lincoln was *not* a christian. If it weren’t for the fact that the christian bible supports slavery, Lincoln’s job would probably have been a whole lot easier than it was.

[Excerpts]
Col. James H. Matheny, a one-time political manager, said: “I knew Lincoln as early as 1834-7; knew he was an Infidel. He and W.D. Herndon used to talk Infidelity in the Clerk’s office in this city, about the years 1837-40. Lincoln attacked the Bible and the New Testament on two grounds: first, from the inherent or apparent contradictions under its lids; second, from the grounds of reason. . . Sometimes Lincoln bordered on Atheism.”
- – -
“Mr. Lincoln was never a member of any Church, nor did he believe in the divinity of Christ, or the inspiration of the Scriptures in the sense understood by evangelical Christians.
When a boy, he showed no sign of that piety which his many biographers ascribe to his manhood. When he went to church at all, he went to mock, and came away to mimic.
When he came to New Salem, he consorted with Freethinkers, joined with them in deriding the gospel story of Jesus, read Volney and Paine, and then wrote a deliberate and labored essay, wherein he reached conclusions similar to theirs.”
– Colonel Ward H. Lamon (a religionist and Lincoln’s longtime friend), Life of Abraham Lincoln, pp. 486, 487, 157 (1872), cited by Franklin Steiner in The Religious Beliefs of Our Presidents
.
doesn’t make sense, does it?
His first name probably would not have been Abraham. Other than that not much would be different. If i know my history Abe may have been a Deist or an atheist.
The phrase “under god” was added in 1955 to the pledge of allegiance during the cold war, because the Soviet Union was an atheist country.
The “under God” thing showed up during the Cold War, to attempt to further distinguish the US from the perceived evils of the Soviet Union. It should not have been put there; it is an explicit establishment of religion, which is forbidden by the Bill of Rights. A case was brought to the Supreme Court to get rid of it, but the Court decided to duck rather than issue an undoubtedly controversial ruling.
I’m not sure how Lincoln relates to the pledge of allegiance, but “one nation under God” was added in the 1950′s I believe.
Lincoln was no Christian.
It was added during the Red Scare to combat Communism.
then why did he have an affair with a black woman if he hated blacks and was disgusted by them? I am not a liberal by the way. Just paying attention to history is all.
ROFL, this is too good…
Lincoln was a Conservative
Yes, we liberals do have access to books.
There is the legend of Lincoln, which talks of him freeing the slaves. He didn’t see blacks as equals. I believe he even wanted to send them back to Africa feeling that they wouldn’t be able to function in white society.
He was a product of his times. Backward for these times but pretty advanced for his time.
big deal, may not of liked them but saw them as human and equal to him. lots of cons fought for civil rights, but go up to any idiot flying the rebal flag today and ask what party they are. i bet you 99% would be anything but a democrat. cons hate minorities, beat thier women, and think that all non-cons are commie pinko FaGs, believe that torture works
Lincoln actually never freed the slaves, only some of them. His emancipation proclamation only freed the slaves in the rebel southern states. The proclamation did not apply to the 5 slave states in the north – Yes that’s right, the north had slaves too.
The slaves were actually freed in December 1865 with the passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. The 13th Amendment freed the slaves in New Jersey, Delaware, Missouri and Kentucky. Maryland’s slaves were freed in 1864 by the State legislature. These facts are usually overlooked in modern, revisionist history books which give Lincoln all the credit.
BTW – Lincoln was a Republican and the Democratic party was the party of slavery.
Since Lincoln is dead and the times then are totally different than now I really do not think he would be appalled.
DIFFERENT TIMES, DIFFERENT VALUES
Back then the common perception was that Monkeys came first, Blacks came quickly thereafter and Whites were far superior to blacks. That is why the monkey moniker towards blacks is always considered racist, but not towards whites.
It was simply a sign of the times and yes, Lincoln would be considered a racist by today’s standards, closer associated with white supremacist.
But that does not change the fact that he has rightfully earned his place in history as one of our best.
.
Are you implying that it’s only liberals that believed freeing the slaves was a good thing?
Lincoln didn’t hate blacks – he didn’t think much of them for the most part, but he did hold respect for those that proved themselves. He was friends and held respect for Frederick Douglas, even inviting him to the White House.
The freeing of the slaves WAS a mostly political move, but it was still an important one, and Lincoln was still ahead of his times in terms of race.
And what the hell do liberals have to do with this anyways?
News a little slow where you live?
He said that early in his career and learned through exposure of them in DC, especially Fredrick Douglas, and his personal coachman, whom he befriended, that blacks are capable of anything whites are.
Lincoln, in his final address, wanted legislation that would give blacks the right to vote (i.e. citizenship).
Unlike yourself, he learned from his mistakes.
That’s actually fairly common knowledge, but you’re right they don’t teach that to little kids….of course you seem to presume that the Republican kids were smart enough to know this all along. I’m sure.
Yep. I are a college graduate.
Yes, I think everyone realizes that. Racism was the norm in the 1860′s… Lincoln was normal in that regard, though he was very progressive for his time.
Abe was very open with his struggle over this issue, up unitl he signed the bill he stated he was unsure what was best for the country.
And?? Yes, we knew Lincoln wasn’t for ‘equality’. Did you want to be the party of the 19th century, or the one of the 21st? The puritans weren’t all that nice or cordial to the indians either….does that mean we should discount EVERY single thing they stood for, based on some aspects that we wholeheartedly disagree with?
That’s no secret.
Evidently you underestimate us.
