1) National currency system was established (1862)
2) Expansion of the War Department (1862)
3) Expansion of the Railroad (1861)
4) Passage of the Homestead Act (1862)
5) Passage of the Morrill Land Grant Act
6) Establishment of the Department of Agriculture
7) Several diplomatic victories in keeping the British and french out of the war. Including getting the french to withdraw troops from Mexico and preventing the European powers from recognizing the Confederacy.

Well, obviously, he issued the Emanciption Proclamation. Although some argue that it had no effect, since it freed only the slaves in states in rebellion, which were by definition not under federal control at the moment, the fact remains that slavery in the United States was extinct soon after the end of the Civil War.
In addition. it was during Lincoln’s administration that the Transcontinental Railroad was begun, and he also conceived the plan for colleges and universities in remote and rural areas–one reason so many American colleges were founded in 1867.
He also gave some memorable speeches, at least one of which used to be memorized by American school children : ) and some of which are included in American Literature anthologies.

I’m writing a 2000 word biography on Abraham Lincoln and I want to point out his 4 greatest accomplishments. Can anyone give me some ideas? I want them to be things that I can write a lot about.

The greatest accomplishment of President Lincoln would be the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery at every level.

that lincoln was rejected all his life from everything to finally becoming President talk about someone being determined, thats all i can think of, and no he did not free the slaves, congress told him it would be in his best intrest to do so since, we were going through a civil war at the time

He was self-taught to a large degree but was also quite eloquent. One of his letters was often cited as a masterpiece of the use of the english language by professors at Oxford. His Gettysburg Address remains one of the most eloquent and moving public addresses ever made and a restatement of the ideals of the American Revolution.
He shepherded the US through the trauma of the Civil War and his policy of forgiveness set the tone for reconciliation. His second inaugural address, with his words of “malice toward none” were both beautiful and crucial.
The Emancipation Proclamation, while it did not actually free slaves nor truly end slavery of itself, was emblematic of the end of that institution in the US.

You could start with ending slavery, keeping the union together……………and yeah he was a REPUBLICAN!

By using military force to compel the states that wanted to secede to remain in the union against their will, he showed that a president could flagrantly ignore the protections of the Constitution. This set a precedent that has been acted on ever since.
